BRE Programme Lead, Construction Innovation Hub

Steven is the Head of Research at BRE and the BRE Programme Lead for the Construction Innovation Hub. As Head of Research at BRE, Steven is responsible for providing thought leadership and direction to the shape and delivery of the business research and innovation strategy to ensure it meets the strategic goals.

As BRE Programme Lead, Steven is responsible for the meeting the objectives of the BRE Construction Innovation Hub Programme and for delivery of the BRE Hub workplan aimed at driving the adoption of assured manufacturing and digital approaches for improved delivery, resilience, and performance of infrastructure.

With over 20 years’ experience in research, innovation, consultancy, and business transformation, Steven’s specialised knowledge and publications cover the application of digital ways of working and collaborative working for digital transformation. Steven has supported several industrial expert groups working on digital transformation and is the Hub’s representative expert on BSI committees: CB/005 Digitalization of the Built Environment Strategy, and B/555 Committee for Construction design, modelling and data exchange. Steven was also a Hub steering group member responsible for the production of PAS 14191:2020 Built environment – Operation of interconnected construction data dictionaries.

Previously, Steven served as Centre Research Manager and Deputy Director of the Centre for Innovation and Collaborative Construction Engineering (a £15m EPSRC funded Doctoral Centre) at Loughborough University, as well as a lecturer in digital construction. He was also former chair of the UK Association of Engineering Doctorates, supporting leading UK universities and businesses with delivering excellence in applied research through strategic industrial research collaborations (approx. £350m of STEM activity).  Before this, Dr Yeomans was Head of Collaboration for an international engineering organisation helping organisations and complex projects to adopt digital ways of working including the Olympics 2012.

Steven’s passion for collaborative innovation and research and belief in their ability to solve real world problems  has driven his career choices over the past twenty years. “I absolutely believe in BRE, Hub and Government ambitions to stimulate new RDI to modernise the industry, and tackle major challenges faced by the world so that innovation serves future societal and business needs and enables an innovation-led economy to facilitate leading the future by creating it.”
