We’re hack-ling climate change with data

Friday 04 Mar 2022 - Friday 04 Mar 2022
Time 9:00 AM
Location Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge Campus

If you are concerned about climate change and passionate about the power of data to tackle the challenges we face then join us to explore how information interoperability can help to tackle the biggest challenges facing the planet today - the climate emergency.

Hub partner, the Centre for Digital Built Britain is hosting an all-day Hackathon (9am-5pm with presentations and socialising afterwards) at Anglia Ruskin University's Cambridge campus on East Road on Friday 4 March, to explore how better data sharing can boost efforts to decarbonise the construction sector.

The 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Glasgow in November 2021 provided a driving force to address the climate issue, whilst highlighting that as a sector the built environment is accountable for more than 40% of CO2 emissions.

During the Hackathon the skills and knowledge of participants will be put to the test through set challenges that will involve decoding information and finding solutions to reduce the sector's carbon footprint, helping drive sustainable growth, and accelerate progress towards Net Zero.

Prizes will be awarded for the best concepts and ideas and the findings and insights from the event will be shared with Government and Industry.

Henry Fenby-Taylor Information Management Delivery Lead for the Hub said "There is an urgent need to change the nature of interventions in the built environment.

We're either a massive brake or accelerator on climate resilience depending on our actions. This is not about building new schools and roads in a sustainable way, but equally about improving the operational performance of the built environment that already exists.

Through our Hackathon event we aim to bring people together and work in collaboration to look at how we can make better use of available data to boost the built environment sector's efforts to tackle the climate crisis, whether we're designing, building or operating resources."
