Bryden Wood’s new book ‘Platforms in Practice’ is a detailed, worked example that demonstrates how platform theory has been translated into platform practice. The book journeys from the origins of platforms and the creation of Platform II, to a practical guide to applying platforms and an exploration of The Forge (the world’s first building designed and constructed using this approach), to a detailed analysis of how Platform II aligns with the Construction Innovation Hub’s rules and principles regarding platform approaches.

The vision for the UK National Metric Library (NML) is: “The UK National Metric Library is a national structured repository of quantitative and qualitative performance metrics for the built environment. It will support coordination, innovation, knowledge sharing and dissemination of best practice to improve how we measure sustainable performance across the asset lifecycle.” This strategy paper presents initial research findings on the value of the UK NML for the built environment, models for delivery and key recommendations for the development and launch of a future NML.
Product Platform Rulebook - A report by Akerlof. Using the 1,700-place prison at HMP Fosse Way as the basis for this research, the report focuses on the carbon content within the sub-structures and foundations, visually demonstrating the impact of each element to identify priority areas for embodied carbon reduction. A comprehensive action plan and timeline is outlined, informing a route map for future carbon reduction as part of the MoJ’s pathway towards net zero.
Product Platform Rulebook - A report by Mott MacDonald for the Construction Innovation Hub. The report provides an economic and qualitative analysis of the mass implementation of Product Platforms, as recommended by government policy
A collaborative team spanning Atkins, Faithful and Gould and Mott Macdonald were commissioned by the Hub to explore the extent to which the guidance set out in the Product Platform Rulebook can currently be implemented by clients and their consultants. The study is focused on the initial stages of the ‘Demand, Develop, Deploy’ framework, and more specifically the process steps that would take a client up to an initial Product Platform Strategy,

Product Platform Rulebook - the report from Better Delivery presents a series of options to take the Rulebook forward into the implementation stages as part of the legacy strategy
A report by Akerlof. Following the publication of the Product Platform Rulebook consultation with industry highlighted the need for further details, expanding upon both the ‘What’ and ‘How’ in developing platform strategies for deployment. This report has therefore been written to support this need, with a specific focus towards those with the greatest size - the Tier 1 main contractors.
As part of the Construction Innovation Hub Bridge period, the Hub design team worked with the Product Platform Rulebook case studies to further progress the definition and contents of Deployment Manuals. A Deployment Manual is part of the DEPLOY stage within the Rulebook process. This work has built on the guidance set out in the Rulebook.
Following the successful launch of the Product Platform Rulebook, the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) has developed an assessment to for construction organisations to gather supporting data and information, enabling them to define the maturity of a specific Product Platform, the supporting business case, as well as how a potential solution complies to the 8 Product Platform Rules & Principles. This assessment aims to enable industry organisations to self-assess how mature their product platform is and guide them through the DEMAND DEVELOP – DEPLOY Rulebook process.
